Charles Franklin “Charlie” Shoffner of Ridgeway departed this earth on February 27, 2025, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on July 29, 1944, to the late Thomas and Louise (Culp) Shoffner. He was one of 9 children. Charlie married Ruth Wren Hoenshel on December 15, 1968, in Rushsylvania and she survives.
Also surviving are his children; Leigh Ann (Tim) Newland, Kyle Douglas “Doug” (Sara) Hoenshel, Chris (Lucille) Hoenshel, Charles Franklin (Heather) Shoffner II, sister, Kate (Bill) Newman, grandchildren; Nick (Grace) Newland, Michelle (Jeremy) Hill, Keera (Richard) McClaren, Jarrod (Corrine) Hoenshel, Heather Andes, Luis Michael Hoenshel, Hannah Shoffner, Hayden Shoffner, great grandchildren; Dominic and Faith Newland, Camden Hill, Aiden and Christopher Andes, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Loretta (Phil) Richardson, Barb Brown, Mary Wolf, Sally (Gene) Harrold, Joan Manns, brothers, Bob (Dixie) Shoffner and Tim (Alene) Shoffner.
Charlie was proud to have served his country as a Marine. After serving he went on to work and later retired from Rockwell International. After retiring from Rockwell, he worked as a guard at Honda Marysville for several years.
He did many things over his 80 years, but the things he was most proud of were his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He and Ruth never missed a thing they were in!
Charlie was a die-hard Buckeyes and Browns fan and had a huge love for the Gophers! If you were blessed enough to cross Charlie’s path you know how lucky you are.
Memorial donations in Charlie’s honor may be made to Wounded Warriors or donor’s choice.
