
Doris Elizabeth (Barr) Porter, 93 formerly of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on February 15, 2025 at The Heritage Nursing Home, Findlay, OH.
She was born on July 1, 1931 in Fairfield County, OH to Alvin and Mae (Ruhlman) Barr. On November 14, 1948, Doris married Charles (Chuck) Porter. They were married for 70 years before he preceded her in death on January 1, 2019. She was also preceded in death by three sisters: Jean Brown, Elsie Garder, Margaret Taylor: one brother, Donald Barr; and her grandson, Robert Steinbacher.
Doris is survived by her children, Carolyn (Lary) Steinbacher of Ft. Wayne, IN; Phil (Donna) Porter, of Olathe, KS; Janet (Douglas) Richardson, of Pittsford, NY; Donna (Steven) Thiel, of Findlay, OH; and one brother, Dale (Carol) Barr, of Anna, OH. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was a homemaker and assistant to her husband in business. This included The Ohio Dynamite Company that ultimately brought their families to Upper Sandusky, OH. A long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of London OH and Upper Sandusky, OH, she thoroughly enjoyed singing in the choir, enriching the lives of many through her devotion to faith and music. Doris could be found spending time traveling to see her family, gardening, cooking, sewing, crafting and reading. Her exquisite talents found expression in the well-tended garden and impeccably maintained home, which often drew admiration and could easily have been featured in any lifestyle magazine. She also served at countless school and community functions including several years as a local 4-H leader.
Family will receive friends on Saturday February 22, 2025 from 10am-11am at First Presbyterian Church with a funeral service beginning at 11am with Rev. Kenneth Wessler officiating. A private burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in care of Bringman Clark Funeral Home 226 E. Wyandot Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351
