
French “Fenchie” Combs, 91, of Ada, formerly of Dunkirk passed away peacefully at Vancrest of Ada on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
French was born on November 25, 1933, to the late Kell and Ethel (Hall) Combs in Knott County, Kentucky. On October 14, 1955, he married Connie Tackett, and she preceded him in death on November 28, 2002.
Surviving are 2 sons, Marvin (Brenda) Combs, Steven (Paula) Combs, 2 daughters, Rebecca Bennett, Brenda Combs, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Ray Combs, Robert Combs, and a sister, Edith (Don) Schick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a companion, Sally Hawkins, 3 brothers, Walter, Evan, and Carlos Combs, 2 sisters, Shirley Combs, Judy Hensley, and a son-in-law, Chuck Bennett.
French worked on the railroad for 43 years before retiring.
He enjoyed hunting coon, rabbits, and squirrels. He had many coon dogs over the years and numerous trophies for best dog in show. He also liked beagles and dotsons.
French never met a stranger. He loved going to flea markets, garage sales and watching birds. He also loved to spend time with his family and going out to eat.
Funeral services for French will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton with Pastor Gregg King officiating. Burial will follow in Dunkirk Cemetery. Friends and family may visit from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the funeral home.
Memorial donations in French’s honor may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
