Lanny William Hipsher, 85 of Dunkirk, passed away at his home, on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

He was born December 4, 1940 to the late Jack Hipsher and Virginia (Pugh) Hipsher.  On April 6, 1962, Lanny married Eleanor Jane McKinley, and she preceded him in death on January 30, 2023.

Surviving are his children, Wesley (Melinda) Hipsher, Lisa (Richard) Walden, and Craig Hipsher, all of Dunkirk, his grandchildren, Molly (Seth) Evans, Kyle Hipsher, Lindsay (Justin) Hollar, Brady (Miranda) Hipsher, and Kathrine Hipsher, and his great-grandchildren, Jackson, Owen, and McKinley Evans, and Carter Hollar.  Also surviving are his brothers, Samuel (Nancy) Hipsher and Jack (Karen) Hipsher, his sisters, Phyllis (Mike) Gaver and Darlene (Donald) Brien, and his beloved beagle, Sadie.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Hipsher, Larry Hipsher, and infant Floyd Hipsher.

Lanny was a proud 1959 graduate of Kenton High School. He retired from Rockwell/Meritor after having also worked at Marion Power Shovel and RBM, where he met his partner of over 60 years, Eleanor. After his retirement, he enjoyed mowing the lawn at Sheldon Gas Company and having a laugh in the shop with the boys after.  He also enjoyed golfing and fishing and had a special recipe for frying bluegill that was loved by all who ate them.

Lanny found his greatest joy in his children and grandchildren. He was an active parent and grandparent, attending every activity and serving as biggest fan.  His grandkids could count on him for swimming parties, fishing trips, sleep-overs, coaching T-ball, rides to basketball camp, and lessons on the golf course.

Funeral services for Lanny Hipsher will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Price McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton with Pastor David Holbrook officiating. Burial will follow at Dunkirk Cemetery. Friends and family may visit 2 hours prior to services at the funeral home.

Memorial donations in Lanny’s honor  may be made to the Dunkirk Grace United Methodist Church.
