
Lois Thiel, a beloved community member and dedicated homemaker, passed away on May 1, 2025, at Trustwell Living at Blanchard Place in Kenton. She was born on June 9, 1935, in Bryan, Ohio, to the late Burton and Beulah (Jarrard) Royal. On March 24, 1957, Lois married M. Gene Thiel and he preceded her in death on March 25, 1976.
Her involvement in the community included being the director of the Forest Wharton Food Pantry for 20 years, a 4-H Advisor for the Wharton Stitch & Stir, and member of the Grow & Learn CCL. She was a devoted member of the Forest United Methodist Church and of the Big Oak Church. Lois’s passions included crocheting, sewing, and reading.
She is survived by her children: Constance (Tirey) Latham of Kenton, Carol (Alun) Deniston of Bowling Green, Charles (Denise) Thiel of Urbana, and Catrina (Randy) Harding of Lewis Center; son-in-law James Buchholz of Holgate; twelve grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her daughter Catherine Buchholz, as well as five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Forest UMC, 111 E Dixon St, Forest, OH with Pastor Christopher Thacker officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00AM until the time of the funeral service. Burial will follow at Wharton Richland Union Cemetery, Wharton, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the Forest Wharton Food Pantry in c/o Forest UMC.
