
Martha J. Frey, age 85, of Upper Sandusky, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay. She was born September 9, 1940, in Sandusky County to the late Estel and Edna (Holman) Saalman.
Martha married Richard R. Frey on October 18, 1958, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 2013. She is survived by her children, Rick (Julie) Frey of Florida, Elaine (Todd) Thomson of Mount Blanchard, and Steve (Hub) Frey of Arizona; 9 grandchildren, Josh (Jane), Nathan (Delaney), Nick (Dani) Boes, Natasha (Cory) McCoy, Ashley, Austin Michael, Chelsea Frey,
Evan, and Austin Bradley (Sarah) Frey; one step-grandchild, Ty (Angela) Thomson; 15 great- grandchildren, Madison, Kadence, Colten, Scarlett, Maverick, Trinity, Riggs, Tinsley, Teddey, Nash, Owen, Knox, Taleigha, Audriella, and Henry; one step-great-grandchild, Piper; and three brothers, Elsby Saalman of Fostoria, Ray Saalman of Fostoria, and Joe (Mary Alice) Saalman of
Fremont. She was preceded in death by her son, David A. Frey, and two sisters, Iola Frey and
Regina Bramblett.
Martha graduated from Jackson Liberty High School with the Class of 1958. She was a devoted homemaker who worked alongside her husband on their family farm, helping with the daily milking and grain farming operation. Together they built their log home, where they spent many years welcoming family and friends and creating lasting memories.
She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Chapel in Kirby and also belonged to the Kenton and Tiffin Moose Lodges.
Martha enjoyed playing the piano, singing with her family, attending family reunions in both Ohio and Indiana, traveling throughout the United States, line dancing, and polka dancing.
Above all else, Martha treasured her family. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also had a special love for her many nieces and nephews, who held a special place in her heart.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Chapel, Kirby, with Father Savio Manavalan, OFM Conv. officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. at Bringman Clark Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky.
