Richard A. Axline, age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 3, 2026, at Blanchard Valley Hospital, due to complications from bladder cancer. Though he fought hard until the very end, his body was finally ready for rest.
Richard was born on September 14, 1950, to William and Betty Axline. As the youngest of four children and the only boy, he was admittedly a bit spoiled—and anyone who has seen his childhood photos can attest to the unmistakable look of orneriness in his eyes.
After graduating from Findlay High School in 1968, Richard answered the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December of 1968 as a Hospital Corpsman, stationed with the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. During his service, he was deployed to Vieques, Puerto Rico, and spent several months on the Mediterranean Sea aboard the USS DeSoto County. He was honorably discharged July 19, 1976, and then served in the reserves until June 1979.
Richard married Catherine Axline (Timmons) on February 28th, 1969. Together, Richard and Cathy raised three daughters: Meredith (Hudson), Shannon (Dyer), and Miranda (Borland) and they lived a simple but good life, built on the foundation of Richard’s tireless work ethic. Blue-collar through and through, he worked hard over the years to provide for his family, spending time as an over-the-road truck driver, a farm manager, and a train engineer for the railroad. In November 2022, Richard married Deloris “Dee” (Lowery) Axline. He spent his final years living in Patterson, Ohio, with Dee, where they enjoyed relaxing on the porch, watching old westerns and game shows and spoiling their several dogs.
Anyone who knew Richard knew three things to be true: he was stubborn, he was ornery, and he was an all-around great guy. He was always up for adventures, shenanigans, pranks and just having fun with life. He loved riding his motorcycle, being on the lake, traveling in his RV and spending time with his family. He thoroughly enjoyed chocolate cake/cupcakes and chocolate ice cream or shakes. He loved wheelin’ and dealin’ for cars, boats, motorcycles, or whatever else he thought he needed to own at the time. He was a deeply patriotic and proud Navy Veteran who participated in several Patriot Guard missions. The American Flag always waved proudly outside his home.
Richard was an amazing person whose personality and character will be remembered for years to come. You didn’t have to know him for long to have him make an impact on you. He will be deeply missed.
The family will host a Celebration of Life to honor Richard’s memory, please ride your motorcycle if possible. The celebration of life will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Amvets Post 1994 in Kenton. Honor guard will perform rites at 6:30 P.M., food will be served. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Richard’s name to AMVETS Post 1994 or the Patriot Guard Riders (www.PGROhio.org).
