Robert Theodore Blumenschine died Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born on November 29, 1936 in Kenton to the late Theodore “Ted” and Dorothy (Casper) Blumenschine. He graduated in 1954 from Kenton High School. From the time he was quite young he worked mowing yards (with the old lawn mowers) and helping do household chores such as washing windows and porches. Later he ran trap lines with a friend and neighbor, Tom Rubins. In high school he worked after school at the A & P grocery.
From 1960 to 1962 he served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Rockwell for 30 years on the line and painting, sometimes 7 days a week, never missing a chance for overtime.
He married Kathleen “Kate” Conner in 1964 and they had two children, Robert Christopher, who lives in Pierce County, Washington, and Anne Elizabeth, who lives in Mancos, Colorado. Since Mom had to work early, Bob was second “mom” who got the kids up, helped them dress, get their breakfast, braided hair, and always made sure they had lunch money.
Bob was an avid fisherman and a hunter of pheasants and ducks. His ideal vacation was fishing for “browns” in the Lewis Lake and River of Yellowstone while keeping an eye out for eagles, ospreys, moose, and listening for loons.
Antiquing was another interest which took him to many auctions. Over the years he enjoyed ice skating, biking, and in-line skating at Indian Lake.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, his children, a sister, Joyce (Robert) Cannarozzi, a sister-in-law, Patty (Bill) Hayter, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Faith and Richard Rapp and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sharon and Tom Moore.
A private family graveside service will be held at Grove Cemetery. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hardin County Community Foundation or the Hardin County Museum Foundation.
Online condolences may be expressed at pricefh.net.
As you always told me whenever I would leave “Good Luck”, dear one.
