Rodney Jeff Whitaker passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the Hardin Memorial Hospital ER. He was born on June 22, 1964, in Kenton to the late Charles and Lillie Mae (Haney) Whitaker. He married Susan McCrary on December 12, 1987, and she survives.

Also surviving are his two sons, Jason (Jamie) Whitaker of Kenton and Matthew (Emily) Whitaker of Hepburn; two grandsons, Mason Whitaker and Mark Whitaker; a brother, Rick Whitaker of Kenton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jeff was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Whitaker Jr. and Ronald Whitaker; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Whitaker; and two nephews, Rich Whitaker and Mike Whitaker.

A 1982 graduate of Kenton High School, Jeff was a truck driver for most of his life. He was also an avid musician, singer, and songwriter who performed in many bands across multiple genres, including country, bluegrass, and bluegrass gospel. Music was a significant part of his life, and he was proficient in a multitude of stringed instruments.

Funeral services for Jeff will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton, with Pastor Anthony Krummery officiating. Burial will follow at Preston Cemetery. Friends and family may visit 2 hours prior to services on Thursday and from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the funeral home.

Memorial donations in Jeff’s honor may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
