Sherry Kay Poeppelman, age 67, of West Mansfield, Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born on May 29, 1958, to Wesley Kavanagh and the late Betty (Boerger) Kavanagh.
On December 5, 1987, Sherry married Michael Poeppelman, who survives her and continues to reside in their family home in West Mansfield.
Sherry is lovingly remembered by her children: Jerome (Stacey) Davis of Kenton, Lance Poeppelman of Kenton, and Grace (Reese) Overly of Ridgeway. She was a devoted grandmother to Blake Davis, Karson Davis, Ellery Overly, Hayden Overly, and Emilia Overly, and great-grandmother to Greyson Davis, Xiyler Davis, and Octavia Ramge. She is also survived by her brother, Keith (Deb) Kavanagh.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Kavanagh; her brother, Ricky Kavanagh; and her beloved granddaughter, Kalina Davis.
Sherry attended Ridgeway Elementary School and, following consolidation, graduated from Ridgemont High School in 1976. She later attended Toledo Medical Educational Center, where she earned her certificate as a Dental Assistant. Though trained in dental assisting, Sherry devoted much of her working life to caring for others through roles as a geriatric nursing aide and an employee of the WIC social services program.
She eventually chose to become a homemaker, dedicating herself fully to raising her children and helping care for her grandchildren. Even then, Sherry continued serving her community as an Educational Aide at Ridgemont, a Bokescreek Poll Worker, and a dedicated volunteer at Ridgemont. She was her family’s biggest supporter and rarely missed a sporting event, school activity, or special milestone.
She also cherished attending the Hardin County Fair and it was a tradition that she looked forward to every year. Sherry found joy in scrapbooking and baking cookies and other sweet treats, which were always waiting for her visiting children and grandchildren.
A woman of faith, Sherry attended Kenton Church of the Nazarene and was formerly a member of Ridgeway United Methodist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She lived her faith daily and was known for her heartfelt reminder to others: “Jesus loves you and I do too.” Sherry’s kindness, devotion to family, and faith will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services for Sherry will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Mt. Victory with Pastor Caleb Burkey officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Cemetery. Friends and family may visit 2 hours prior to the services at the funeral home.
Memorial donations in Sherry’s honor may be made to the Logan County Cancer Society.
