Steven D. Hites, age 76, of Kenton


Steven Douglas Hites passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on September 20, 1949, in Kenton to the late Raymond C. and Estella C. (Black) Hites.

Steven served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps, completing two tours in Vietnam, and later retired from Whirlpool in Marion. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed maintaining his yard, listening to country music, and watching his favorite show, MASH. He also cherished his pet cats and spending time talking with friends and family.

He is survived by his daughter, Jacquline (Joshua) McCarthy of Ridgeway; his son, Richard (Sharon) Hites Chapman of Marion; his sister, Barbara (William Newman) Scott of Kenton; two grandsons, Carter and Caleb McCarthy; and several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Steven was preceded in death by his life companion of 26 years, Brenda Bostater; two daughters, Vickie Offenbacher-Ownes and Lisa Offenbacher; and his brother, Michael R. Hites.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Church of Christ in Kenton. Friends and family may visit at the church during the two hours prior to the service. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with arrangements. 

In honor of Steven, memorial donations may be made to the Ohio Veterans Home. Please make checks payable to OVH-RBF (Resident Benefit Fund) and mail them to OVH Volunteer Services, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870, with Steven’s name in the memo line.
