The Ohio State Highway Patrol remembered the life of a trooper who died in the line of duty on this date (February 25) in 1973.

Patrolman David L. Sterner, a member of the Findlay Post, was in pursuit of a speeding motorist on State Route 15 in Hancock County when another driver pulled across State Route 37 directly in his path.

In attempting to avoid a collision with the vehicle on 37, the officer lost control of his patrol car and crashed into a culvert.

He was 21 years old and a graduate of the 95th Academy Class in June of 1972.
