St. Paris Couple Arrested After Body of Missing Woman was Found

The body of a missing Champaign County woman was found on Thursday.

According to a release from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, deputies found the body of Whitney Hostler in a wooded ravine near Kiser Lake Road.

Today, deputies arrested Rodney Rider Sr. and Valerie Rider, of Saint Paris, in connection with the woman’s death.

Valerie Rider was charged with the following offenses in the Champaign County Municipal Court:

MURDER 2903.02(A)(D) – UF

TAMPERING WITH EVIDENCE – F3

GROSS ABUSE OF A CORPSE – F5

and POSSESSING CRIMINAL TOOLS – F5 (three counts)

Rodney Rider Sr. was charged with:

OBSTRUCTING JUSTICE – F3 (two counts)

TAMPERING WITH EVIDENCE – F3

GROSS ABUSE OF A CORPSE – F5

and POSSESSING CRIMINAL TOOLS – F5 (three counts)

The defendants are expected to be arraigned in the Champaign County Municipal Court at a time yet to be determined by the clerks.

Both are being held at the Tri County Regional Jail.
