After a three-week investigation, two Marion County residents have been charged with 64 counts of prohibitions concerning companion animals.

According to a release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, the investigation was launched in early March after Marion County Dog Warden authorities were dispatched to the 6000 block of Marion Agosta Road for a report about a deceased dog.

The dog’s body was found and a necropsy was conducted. Three weeks later, a search warrant was served at the residence where 9 dogs, an aquatic turtle and a leopard gecko were rescued.

Three of the dogs were surrendered and are currently available for adoption at the Marion County Dog Pound.

The remaining animals are being held pending the outcome of the court cases.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Whitney Moore and Brandon Johnson, of New Bloomington, were charged with the offenses, four of which are fifth degree felonies.
