Hardin County United Way’s Executive Director, Martha Evans-Nau, participated in a four-day conference in Washington, D.C. Nau was one of three speakers selected from across the country to discuss her involvement in policy and advocacy issues.  Evans-Nau spoke on her participation in State and National advocacy initiatives.

“As an emerging United Way, it has been exciting to start participating in conversations that affect our county, and to be able to do so on a state and national level.  I was surprised and honored to be asked to speak at the national event.  Representing Ohio and Hardin County at this level was an amazing opportunity”, Evans-Nau stated.

Evans-Nau has spent the past year participating in monthly state-level policy conversations and advocating for statewide 2-1-1 funding.  She hopes that by being part of the conversations, she can draw attention to the needs of Hardin County’s citizens.  “It’s important that we put ourselves at the table; if we want to see changes, we have to join the discussions.”

The event brought together over 400 United Way leaders from across the country. Ohio’s United Way leaders met with Senator Husted, Senator Moreno, and Representative Jordan to discuss the concerns of Ohio’s United Ways and express their gratitude for all the support they have received.
