Driver Facing Aggravated Vehicular Homicide Charge for 2024 Logan County Fatal Wreck

A Springfield man was arrested this week in Bellefontaine in connection to a 2024 crash that claimed the life of a passenger in his vehicle.

According to information from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Marcus Hagans was driving on East Chillicothe Avenue between Park and Powers streets when his vehicle was stopped by law enforcement.

He was arrested on a warrant by deputies from the Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Bellefontaine Police Department and was transported to the Logan County Jail.

The crash occurred in the early morning hours of June 17, 2024 when Hagans lost control of his vehicle on a curve while driving southeast on County Road 29 in Logan County’s Monroe Township.

The vehicle ended up off the road and struck a tree before overturning.

A passenger in the vehicle, 32-year-old Brittnie Whetsel, died the next day from her injuries.

The report indicated that alcohol and/or drugs were suspected.

Hagans is facing possible aggravated vehicular homicide and other charges.
