A trooper with the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was awarded the Patrol’s Distinguished Service Medallion on Monday.
The award recognizes Trooper Grant E. Baumle for his extraordinary courage and selfless determination.
On August 12 of this year, Trooper Baumle responded to a fiery crash in Allen County, where a box truck was in flames, and the driver was trapped inside. Without hesitation,
Trooper Baumle grabbed his fire extinguisher and climbed into the truck, battling flames around the dashboard and the driver’s legs.
When the fire reignited, he found a second extinguisher and kept fighting, and by the time fire crews arrived, the fire was out.
