Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center is celebrating a groundbreaking medical achievement to kick off 2026. Dr. George Joseph and his team have successfully performed the hospital’s first cardiac ablation using a cutting-edge non-thermal catheter device.
The procedure delivers precisely targeted electrical fields to create controlled lesions in heart tissue, treating atrial fibrillation (AFib), an irregular and often rapid heart rhythm. Known as Pulsed Field Ablation therapy, this advanced technology is used worldwide and brings innovative, world-class cardiac care to patients in Lima.
