Avery’s Law becomes effective in Ohio tomorrow.
The law strengthens Ohio’s dangerous dog laws following a severe 2024 attack.
Key provisions include mandatory euthanasia for dogs causing severe injury or death, increased criminal penalties for negligent owners, immediate dog seizure authority, and mandatory liability insurance of at least $100,000 for designated vicious dogs.
The law was signed by Governor Mike DeWine in December 2025.
It was sparked by the case of Avery Russell, who was severely injured in a pit bull attack when she was 11 years old.
