The Alger Public Library reminded tax filers about the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, program.

It connects eligible taxpayers with certified volunteers who offer free tax return prep and electronic filing each year.

Whether you’re filing for the first time, need help claiming tax credits or want to make sure your return is accurate, the program is a valuable resource.

Visit irs.gov/vita to learn more and check if you qualify.

Also, the IRS Tax Counseling for the Elderly program provides free tax help for individuals over 60 and helps answer questions about pensions, retirement and more.

Learn more about that program this filing season at irs.gov/tce.
