A capstone team at Ohio Northern University’s T.J. Smull College of Engineering is aiming to mitigate flooding when Riley Creek overspreads its banks in Bluffton while also filtering harmful nutrients before they head north and empty into Lake Erie.
Katelyn Wagner, a civil engineering major, alongside four classmates, is tackling the senior capstone project that is working on a two-for-one solution.
Under the guidance of advisor Dr. David Johnstone, professor of civil engineering, the team has spent the year collaborating with Bluffton Village Administrator Jesse Blackburn, the mayor, and city council.
This April, they will present their final engineering designs to village officials.
