
XENIA – The Xenia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash. The crash occurred Sunday, March 29, at approximately 7:49 p.m., at the intersection of U.S. 42 and Hickman Road in Xenia Township, Greene County.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 Honda Accord, operated by Elijah Powell, 19, Reynoldsburg, was traveling southwest on U.S. 42.
A 2022 Honda Civic, operated by Melissa Fields, 49, Wilmington, was traveling northeast on U.S. 42. The Civic was negotiating a left turn to travel northwest onto Hickman Road and was struck in the intersection by the Accord.
After contact, both vehicles traveled off the roadway into the southwest ditch of the intersection. The roadway was closed during the crash investigation. A detour was established by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Fields was transported by ground ambulance to Miami Valley Hospital. Fields succumbed to fatal injuries sustained from the crash at the hospital.
Powell was treated at the scene for possible injuries. Powell’s two passengers; Ann Whitson, 20, Reynoldsburg, and Amari’e Maye, 20, Dayton, were both transported by ground ambulance to Miami Valley Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Xenia Post.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Central State University Police Department, Wilberforce University Police Department, Xenia Township Fire Department & EMS, Ohio Department of Transportation, and A Towing Service.
