The month of May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
The campaign serves as a reminder at the start of the traditional riding season for motorists to share the road and for riders to prioritize safety.
Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart had this blunt advice for motorcyclists, “Don’t be stupid, okay? Ride with common sense, ride with safety in mind. I’ve seen a lot of people do some really dumb things on motorcycles because it’s fun or it’s cool. No, it’s not. Something bad is going to happen if you continue to do dumb things on motorcycles.”
The Sheriff cautioned motorists to be on the lookout for motorcycles. “They are harder to see when you’re sitting at an intersection and a motorcycle is coming down the road. Just because of their size, it’s hard to gauge speed, so again I would urge you to look twice, or three or four times.”
