Paul Albert Pemberton, 91, of Kenton, Ohio was born on March 17, 1935, to the late Lawrence and Esther (Botchlett) Pemberton of Kenton. On May 10, 2026, with family at his side, he joined his wife Marilyn of almost 70 years in Heaven.
Paul was a1953 graduate of Kenton Senior High, Kenton, Ohio. On October 28, 1956, he married Marilyn Jeanne Anderson of Forest, Ohio at St. John’s UCC in Kenton, Ohio by Rev. Stanley L. Fritz. They became the proud parents of Betty(deceased), Brenda, and Richard.
Mr. Pemberton was employed by Rockwell International as a machine repairman and retired in 1995, but his true passion was that of being a dairy and grain farmer of Hardin County on the land that he and his wife purchased shortly after their marriage and where they resided their entire lives.
Paul was a U.S. army veteran and served in the reserves in Ft. Knox, KY. Paul was a proud supporter of the American Red Cross and was a lifetime blood donor. He donated a total of 17 ½ gallons of blood throughout his lifetime.
Mr. Pemberton attended St John’s UCC in Kenton and in his later years attended Silver Creek Church in Kenton. He was a member of Rush Creek Sportsman Club, a lifetime Moose Lodge member in Kenton, and a McDonald Grange member where he loved attending their chicken bbq gatherings.
Paul was a lover of nature and a true outdoorsman. He was an avid fisherman (even in the winter on ice) and a member of the Trophy Bassmasters of Kenton where he won many tournaments over the years. Paul also loved hunting wild turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, and especially deer. He was always ready for the big hunt when the weather cooled and autumn arrived. Paul made yearly trips to southern Ohio and the mountains of West Virginia for 50+ years to hunt with friends that he considered family.
Paul graced his home with mounted deer and fish which were a constant reminder of a life he loved. Paul shared his knowledge of the “Hunt” by becoming an instructor for the Hunters Safety Course for years before it became an online class. Paul’s love of nature led him to become a lifetime member of the Hardin County Fair where he exhibited his gardening skills and became a judge for the 4-H garden projects. Paul was a member of Master Gardeners where he volunteered in the Hardin County Extension office to educate and aid the community in gardening.
Mr. Pemberton was passionate about his garden at home as he started vegetable and flower plants from seeds in early spring. His gardens were known not only for delicious fruits and vegetables but a kaleidoscope of color from the “posies” that graced his land. When it became difficult to garden, with the help of his daughter Brenda, he sat in his garden with his sun hat upon his head and watched the garden grow. Canning was another hobby for Paul that allowed him to continue his love of gardening and hunting as he canned hundreds of jars of meats, vegetables, and fruits that he would gladly share with family and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife Marilyn of Kenton, a daughter Betty Born of Mt. Victory, and a sister Patsy (Virgil) Deardorff of Kenton.
Paul is survived by his daughter Brenda (Kevin) of Findlay, and a son, Richard (Melissa) of Kenton. Grandchildren Amanda (Travis) Wilson of Dinwiddie, VA, Lucas (Erin) of Findlay, OH, Troy Wolfe of Findlay, Joshua (Ashley) Pemberton of New Bloomington, OH, and Amber (Bradley) Pickford of Belle Center, OH. Great grandchildren Harper and Coltley Wilson of Dinwiddie, VA, Bralynne, Xavier, and Coleson Pickford of Belle Center, OH, and Atlas Pemberton of New Bloomington, OH.
Paul was a big card player, playing many nights a week with his family. In his last years, Paul enjoyed watching old reruns of Gunsmoke and Perry Mason daily with Marilyn. He was a hard-working man with high expectations for himself and his family. A humble man, Paul was a true example of the American way of life that he proudly carried into the 21st century.
Paul Pemberton will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Hospice, Rush Creek Sportsmans Club, or the donor’s choice.
