Rotarian Scott Johnson and the Kenton Rotary hosted Amy Long from Keep Hardin County Beautiful at a recent meeting.

She heads a group of over 35 volunteers, including three county commissioners. Funding for Keep Hardin County Beautiful is provided by the Hardin County Commissioners, grant dollars and fundraisers.

This year’s fundraising effort is spearheaded by the garden stone pictured above in a red, white, and blue theme. They can be purchased for $30.

The group meets bi-monthly at the Kenton Elks to discuss updates, organize and plan upcoming events, and work together to keep Hardin County beautiful.

Committees include Fundraising, Community Appearance, Lake of Lights, a booth at the Hardin County Fair, and the Community Beautification Awards, of which three are presented in June, July, August, and September to individuals who work hard to improve the appearance of their properties.

The favorite committee is the Courthouse Flowerpots. Twenty pots are maintained year-round, planted in May and again in September, and decorated for the holiday season in November.
