Hardin County Deputy Among Recent Graduates of OSHP Basic Peace Officer Course

COLUMBUS – Members of the 154th Basic Peace Officer Class received training certificates during a graduation ceremony held Thursday afternoon at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Training Academy. The 38 graduates will now assume duties as peace officers for law enforcement agencies across Ohio.

The 21-week basic course began in August. The Ohio State Highway Patrol Training Academy’s Basic Peace Officer course meets and exceeds the training requirements developed by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission and offers comprehensive instruction in more than 150 topics, including criminal law, traffic law, community relations, physical training, self-defense, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, standardized field sobriety testing and electronic speed measuring devices. The Patrol’s Training Academy is recognized as a “STAR-certified” academy by the Ohio Attorney General for its excellence in training.

Aiden C. Strand-Fox, Wooster Police Department, was selected as class speaker by fellow class members and addressed the assembly. 

Class honors went to the following:

Overall Top Performer – Justin P. Vest, Mount Healthy Police Department
Top Academics – Hayden M. Gorz, Ohio University Police Department
Top Firearms – Nathan D. Raczynski, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office
Top Physical Fitness – Adam M. Lawson, Fairfield Police Department
Top Driving – Daniel D. Cubrilo, Medina Police Department                                                   

Attorney General’s Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission and Academy Executive Director Thomas A. Quinlan was the keynote speaker for the ceremony and addressed an audience of graduates, friends, relatives and law enforcement officers. Lieutenant Colonel Charles J. Linek III provided remarks. Following the remarks, a certificate of training was presented to each graduate.

In our region the following graduates were recognized:

Ryland C. Ernest with the Findlay Police Department, Joshua A. Conley with the City of Lima Parks, Collin P. Deitsch with the Bellefontaine Police Department, Michael S. Frederick with the Union County Sheriff’s Office, and Julian J. Miller with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office also introduced its newest team member over the holiday weekend.

Deputy Julian Jace Miller began his intensive academy training on February 9th of this year and graduated at last week’s ceremony.

Over the last several months, he has demonstrated outstanding dedication, grit, and professionalism to earn his peace officer commission. 

This week, he will officially enter the Field Training Officer portion of training.
