Pilot Seriously Injured in Montgomery County Ultralight Aircraft Crash
Trotwood – Troopers from the Dayton Post of the Ohio State highway Patrol responded to an aircraft crash that occurred at approximately 3:00 PM Sunday, July 19, 2026.
The crash took place at an airstrip located on North Lutheran Church Road and Old Dayton Road. A preliminary investigation revealed that a Kolb Firestar ultralight aircraft was attempting to land. The aircraft lost control, traveled off the west side of the runway, and overturned. The pilot was ejected from the aircraft. The pilot of the aircraft, Ernest Washington, age 55 of Miamisburg, Ohio, was transported by Care Flight to Miami Valley Hospital with life threatening injuries.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Trotwood Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Trotwood Fire and Rescue Services, Jefferson Township Fire Department, and Sandy’s Towing and Recovery.
The FAA and NTSB were notified of the incident.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
