Hardin County Residents Warned of Contraband Scam Calls

Hardin County residents are being advised to beware of a scam concerning supposed contraband being sent from you, via U.S. Mail.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office stated that a local resident reported receiving a phone call from an individual claiming to be investigating a suspicious package containing contraband, likely drugs, that had supposedly been received at an out of state address, with the local resident’s name and return address on it. 

The caller claimed to be a law enforcement officer from El Passo, Texas, and was inquiring what knowledge the recipient of the call had regarding the package.

Persons who receive such calls should refuse to give any information and refer any such inquiries directly to your local law enforcement agency.
