The community is mourning the loss of a young man who lost his long courageous battle against osteosarcoma.

William “Mason” Bloom passed away Monday May 23 at Nationwide Children’s Hospital surrounded by his family just a few weeks shy of his 23rd birthday.

Mason was well loved by the community around him and greatly appreciated the support provided to both him and his family.

He was a 2018 graduate of Kenton High School.

His role in the community transitioned from athlete to coach with him sharing his knowledge with all the youth involved in the Kenton Stingrays swim team, the Hardin County YMCA Sea Dragons swim team, and the Kenton 8th Grade Football Team.

Visitation for Mason Bloom will be held Friday from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at the Schindewolf-Stout-Crates Funeral Home.

A funeral service will begin at 9 Saturday morning at the funeral home in Kenton.

Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery.

Here is the complete obituary:

William “Mason” Bloom fought a courageous battle against osteosarcoma until Monday, May 23, 2022 when he passed at Nationwide Children’s Hospital surrounded by his family. Mason was born to William “Jeff” and Michelle Bloom on June 11, 1999. He is preceded in death by grandparents William “Bill” and Janet Bloom. Mason leaves behind his beloved parents Jeff and Michelle Bloom, sisters Mallory (Ben) McPheron and Morgan (Travis) Downing. Grandparents Robert “Bob” and Carolyn Lambert. Maternal aunt Tina (Mike) Manns, paternal aunts Jennie (Charlie) Byers and Jackie (Gary) McNutt, many loving cousins, and his adored niece and nephew Madeline and Carter McPheron, with another niece (Downing) on the way.

Mason was a 2018 graduate of Kenton High school where he was a member of the football, swim, and tennis teams. Mason also followed in his family’s footsteps in receiving his State FFA degree as a member of the Kenton FFA just like his grandfather, father, and sisters. Mason continued his education at Toledo University pursing elementary education and participating in the Rocket Disc Golf Club until his fight with cancer got in the way. Mason’s role in the community transitioned from athlete to coach with Mason sharing his knowledge with all the youth involved in the Kenton Stingrays swim team, the Hardin County YMCA Sea Dragons swim team, and the Kenton 8th Grade Football Team. Mason also loved the team that was constantly “firing him up”: the Cleveland Browns. He was always willing to talk, watch, or teach football.
Mason’s other passion was disc golf: when Mason wasn’t sleeping, he could be found playing disc golf with his best friends Steven, Connor, Parker, Trent, Alex, and his father, who he lovingly referred to as “Jefferson”; putting into his disc golf basket in the family’s living room; or watching disc golf videos.

Mason was well loved by the community around him and greatly appreciated the support provided to both him and his family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at the SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. A funeral service will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the SCHINDEWOLF-STOUT-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery.

A ‘tailgate’ in Mason’s honor will follow the ceremony at the Kenton High School. Please wear your favorite sports attire for Mason.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Kenton Excellence for Education Foundation Bloom Family Scholarship fund at the Kenton High School or to the City of Kenton Wharton Park Disc Golf Course in the honor of Mason Bloom.
