Kenton beats Napoleon 3-1 to Nap Sectional Crown

The Kenton Wildcats defeated Napoleon 3-1 Thursday at Merold Field to win a Division 2 boys soccer sectional championship.

Kenton improves to 14-3-1 and will face St. Mary’s in the district semifinals Monday at Elida. Napoleon ends its season at 6-12-1.

The game was a scoreless tie for the first 53 minutes before Connor Defibaugh and Colby Quay tallied for the home team to give Kenton a 2-0 lead a little over 26 minutes to play.

Joel Bowman scored Kenton’s third goal with 11:32 left, with Napoleon finally getting on the board with 9:52 remaining in the contest.

The match was the final contest at Merold Field for Kenton’s 12 seniors. Kenton finished 10-0 at home this season, allowing just three goals in the friendly confines.
