Kenton Wrestling Wins 3 of 5 Contests at OG; but Falls Short

Juniors Karson Davis, JJ Manns and Sophomore Evan Elliott were the only wrestlers that claimed contested wins at Ottawa-Glandorf in a WBL dual meet matchup Thursday night.

The meet was the first action for both squads starting the new season.  There were only five contested matches as both teams are young and neither have a full roster which did not pair up well.  The Titans started the dual with a sixteen point edge on the Wildcats due to forfeits.  To win, Kenton would have had to win the contested matches with bonus points.

Kenton did take three of the five matches; but only two scored team bonus points which proved to not be enough to obtain a team victory.

After Harrison Brien lost a thrilling back and forth 12-14 point bout with Luke Meyer at 126 lbs; Karson Davis put the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a victory over Caylee Verhoff at 132 lbs with a pin in the second period. 

138, 144, 150, 157, and 165 weight classes were then all conceded by forfeit leaving the score at 18-27 in favor of the Titans.

At 175 lbs, Kenton’s Evan Elliott defeated Evan Rosengarten by an 8-2 decision and JJ Manns won by a 10-2 major decision over Jayden Guerra at 190 lbs to bring the Wildcats to a close 25-27 match.

However, Matthew Handell suffered a tough loss at 215 lbs falling to Austin Haley and the Wildcats conceded another match at 106 lbs to give the Titans the win by a final score of 25-39.

Kenton will be hosting Elida next Thursday, Dec. 14th and going to the Bucyrus Invitational next weekend.
