Marion Man Killed in Crash on US 23 in Marion County

A weekend crash on US 23 in Marion County claimed the life of a Marion man.

According to a release from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 94 year old Richard Roads was traveling south on 23 in the right lane while a southbound semi being operated by 63 year old Michael Arnold, of Frankfurt, Ohio, was in the left lane.

Roads attempted to turn left onto Newmans Cardington Road when his car was struck by the semi.

Roads was first taken to Marion General Hospital then transferred to Riverside Methodist in Columbus where he later died.

After the collision, Arnold’s semi traveled off the left side of the road where it struck the ditch and overturned.

Arnold was transported to Marion General with minor injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion Township Fire and EMS, Fort Morrow Fire and EMS, Pleasant Township Fire and EMS, Ohio Department of Transportation, Liverpool Towing, and Precision Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
