A Board Member of the Upper Scioto Valley Ambulance District who holds a seat on Alger Village Council raised some concerns about overtime pay for the Chief of the Ambulance District.
Rick Onions said he reviewed several documents that he received showing the overtime claimed by the Chief (Aunee Helton.)
At this week’s village council meeting, Onions outlined his allegations, “There were multiple instances, more than 21 instances when an exaggerated amount of overtime was claimed.”
He went on to say, “There are also 37 instances in the afternoon where the call came in after, I’m sorry during her day when she claimed overtime after the day ended, and they all seemed to be exaggerated 37 times. There were also about a dozen times when she claimed overtime after the call came in after her hours were over, so that’s to say that her shift ended at 3:30, but the call came in at 4 o’clock and she backdated the overtime to 3:30.”
When added up, Onions claims he’s not talking about a little amount of money, “This is a lot of money, and we’re being entrusted with a 5.5 levy, that’s $600,000 plus then I think that we need to be a lot, we need to be very transparent.”
He added that he plans to pursue the matter further, “I’ve gone to the County Prosecutor. I’ve gone to the County Auditor. I’ve gone to the State Auditor. I’ve gone to the Attorney General of the State. I’ve talked to the Fraud Waste and Abuse. I’ve talked to the Inspector General of Ohio, and so we’ll see where it goes.”
