Results of Spring Wild Turkey Hunting Season Released

The Ohio Division of Wildlife released the results of this year’s Spring Wild Turkey Hunting Season. Wild turkey hunters across Ohio checked 15,535 birds during the spring 2024 season. Hardin County hunters took 87 turkeys this season. In our region, hunters took 80 in Allen County, 51 in Auglaize, 38 in Hancock, 124 in Logan, 44 in Marion, 44 in Union and 114 in Wyandot County. Turkey hunters are required to record their harvest using Ohio’s game check system.

Art in the Park Hosted by The Forest-Jackson Public Library Being Held Soon

The Forest-Jackson Public Library will hold Art in the Park on Tuesday, June 11. Area kids are invited to join their friends at 10am that morning at Gormley Park in Forest. They will be able to create a canvas painting and play in the foam in the library's new Foam Machine. The kids should wear swimwear and bring a towel. Greenwood Grange Annual Strawberry Social Set for June

Greenwood Grange will hold its Annual Strawberry Social on Tuesday, June 4. It will go from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall located in Grant on State Route 53. The menu will consist of all social favorites including chicken and noodles, homemade sandwiches and salads, and features Strawberry Shortcake and Pie, along with other favorites. Everyone is invited to dine in or use the available drive thru.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Involved in 6-State Trooper Project to Focus on Safety Belt Enforcement

The Ohio State Highway Patrol joined forces with other members of the 6-State Trooper Project to focus on safety belt enforcement. During the project, 3,459 people in Ohio were issued citations for safety belt violations. Also, 97 people received child safety seat citations. Along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the high-visibility enforcement effort included State Police from Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. 8th Grade Shawnee Middle School Student Excels at Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC

Photo: Shawnee Local Schools-Lima An 8th grade Shawnee Middle School student recently competed in the 96th Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC. Ope Balogun was able to advance to the quarterfinals (round 5).  She previously competed in the 2023 Spelling Bee competition as well.  The 13 year old has also been actively representing her school in Quizbowl, Mathcounts, and Speech.  The Shawnee community congratulated her on her achievements in DC. Ridgemont Local Schools Reminds Residents of Summer EBT Program

Residents in the Ridgemont School District are being reminded that if they receive SNAP or Medicaid, they will automatically qualify for $120 per child in grocery benefits. If a current student of Ridgemont receives free or reduced meals, they will automatically receive this benefit and will not need to apply for it as well. Hardin County 4-H Cloverbud Day Camp Set for June 25th

Photo: Hardin County 4-H Hardin County 4-H Cloverbud Day Camp has been scheduled for June 25. It will run from 12:30pm until 5pm on that Tuesday at the Hardin County Fairgrounds in Kenton. All Hardin County youth who completed grades Kindergarten through 2nd grades are invited to the Camp Rock Day Camp. The cost is $20 per camper.
