Applications for the 2026 Hardin County Sheriff's Office Citizens Sheriff's Academy can be picked up this week at the Hardin County Fair. The Sheriff's Office booth is in the Community Building. The academy begins September 24.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported 12 deaths in 12 fatal crashes over the four-day Labor Day weekend reporting period. According to preliminary Patrol statistics, at least one of the fatal crashes was OVI-related. In a continued effort to lower that number to zero, troopers made 426 arrests for impaired driving and 70 for drug-related charges. The Logan County Sheriff's Office announced a new system for sending documents, photos and mail to inmates at the Logan County Jail. It is being implemented to keep contraband out of the jail. Using the new Inmate Messaging system is also a quicker and more efficient method. Friends and families of inmates can visit NCIC.com and set up an account. Blue Star Mothers Ohio Chapter 32 Blue Star Mothers Chapter 32 is operating booth this week at the Hardin County Fair. When you visit you will be able to sign a card for service members, adopt a duck, and you can also tie a ribbon in support of or for someone special. Your support helps Blue Star Mothers continue their support of veterans, active-duty military, and their families.
Local first responders and veterans benefited from money raised at the Kenton Moose Lodge Car Show. Car show committee members delivered the checks on Tuesday. Each recipient received $1000. Over 11 years, the car shows have raised a total of $100,000. Also Tuesday, the Kenton Moose Lodge delivered their quarterly donations to the West Ohio Food Bank. Two checks totaling just over $22,700 were presented to the organization that serves 11 counties, including Hardin.
Hardin County Fair It is day number 2 of the 2026 Hardin County Fair. Exhibit buildings opened at 9:00 am and rides started at noon. A petting zoo will be set up in the Children's Area from noon until 9:00 pm. The Goat Show will be held at 2:00 pm. The Sheep Show & Market Lamb Show will be held at 5:00 pm. The highlight in the grandstand tonight is Harness Racing start at 5:00 pm.
Hardin County Junior and Senior Fair board members and local and state elected officials conducted a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday afternoon for a new livestock building on the Hardin County Fairgrounds. It was held on the ground currently housing the poultry tent.
