MARION- In the early evening of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the driver of an Amazon delivery van fatally struck a man who had been following the van in what investigators believe to be a road rage confrontation. The incident occurred on Centerville Newmans Road in Prospect, Ohio.
A preliminary investigation, which includes reviewing video from the Amazon van’s cameras, indicates that a Columbus woman driving the van had completed a package delivery. A man who lived in the home where the delivery took place was driving a car with his wife and teenage son as passengers. Their car approached the van, which was parked in the home’s driveway. A brief altercation followed, which included yelling and obscene gestures.
The delivery driver backed the van out of the driveway and drove west on Centerville Newmans Road, a narrow, two-lane road with drainage ditches on either side. The man followed the van in his car, eventually moving left over the double yellow center line and cutting off and striking the van and stopping his car ahead of the van in the right lane. The man got out of his car and quickly walked toward the van. The Amazon driver then backed up and then forward and struck the man with the van.
The 53-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld in accordance with Ohio law. The delivery driver remained and was interviewed by investigators. No one else sustained any injuries requiring medical treatment at the scene.
No charges have been filed as of yet. The investigation remains active. The completed case will be reviewed by prosecutors.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is assisting with a crash reconstruction.
