Boy Scout Lake in Kenton Tests Positive for Unsafe Levels of Algal Toxins

Algal toxins have been found at unsafe levels at Boy Scout Lake in Kenton.

The Veterans Memorial Park Board released those results after water tests taken from the lake were returned.

Microcystins are a class of cyanotoxins, which are toxins produced by cyanobacteria, sometimes known as blue-green algae.

Production of microcystin increases during harmful algal blooms.

Other specialized tests for the water are still pending as are the next steps from the Ohio Department of Health and Environmental Protections Agency.

The public is advised to avoid all contact with the water and keep pets away.
