A City of Kenton Charter Commission public hearing was held Tuesday evening at the Kenton Elementary School.

Councilman Chad Miller, from the city’s 4th Ward, along with Mayor Lynn Webb, Safety Service Director Cindy Murray and City Law Director John Schwemer fielded a number of questions from citizens who attended.

One citizen feels Charter City status would add a barrier between the citizens and city council when it comes to expressing concerns.

Miller countered that the commission is designed to make things better for the city, “The purpose of these 15 people in November that we as a community can vote and say, ‘let’s try and make ourselves better.’ We struggle with paying our police, we struggle with paying our fire, these are all things that we can take control of and say that we want to structure our government that suits us.”

Kenton city residents will decide if they want a Charter Commission and the people who would sit on the commission in the November election.
