Ohio Northern University announced that Dr. Keith Durkin, professor of sociology, has been appointed director of the Ohio Northern University Institute for Civics and Public Policy.

ICAPP, an initiative of the Getty College of Arts and& Sciences, is a non-partisan and education-driven community of scholars dedicated to promoting good citizenship.

It serves as a vital resource for policymakers and citizens in the Midwest, fostering civic literacy and informed public discourse.

A nationally recognized expert in criminology, Dr. Durkin has conducted groundbreaking research on the opioid crisis, examining the links between mental health and substance abuse in both juveniles and adults.

He is also an expert on deviant behavior and internet sex predators, frequently consulted in criminal cases.

His partnerships with juvenile courts in Hardin and Paulding counties provide ONU students with hands-on experiences, including access to unique data sets, court internships, and opportunities to assist with innovative rehabilitation programs.

Dr. Durkin has published extensively, presented at national conferences, and served as President of the Ohio Council of Criminal Justice Education and editor-in-chief of Criminal Justice Perspectives Journal.
