Findlay’s mayor has refuted a Facebook post suggesting Target has backed out of its plans to locate in Findlay.
The post quoted a Target spokesperson, allegedly saying the Findlay market is no longer in consideration, citing global economic volatility as the main reason.
Mayor Christina Muryn issued a statement Wednesday saying the city has received no communication from Target officials stating that they are not moving forward.
She did say there have been slight delays on demolition, as utility issues are being addressed.
Target finalized a purchase agreement in early March with the Findlay Mall’s owner.
188,000 square feet of the mall will be demolished to make way for a nearly 140,000 square foot Target store.
Target will also be building a store in Lima.
Demolition of the old Macy’s store at the Lima Mall is already underway to clear the way for the construction of a 128,000 square foot Target store at that location.
