Findlay Police Chief James Mathias to Retire After 36 Years in Law Enforcement

The City of Findlay announced that Police Chief James Mathias will be retiring effective June 12 this year after a 36-year career in law enforcement, including 31 years of service with the City of Findlay.

He was sworn in with the Upper Sandusky Police Department in 1990, serving until 1995, and joined the Findlay Police Department later that year.

Throughout his career with the City of Findlay, Chief Mathias served in numerous leadership roles, including Field Training Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Captain in 2020, and Chief of Police in 2023.

Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn stated that the city is grateful for Chief Mathias’ decades of service and leadership.

Reflecting on his career, Chief Mathias expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, which he said has been a great privilege.

The City of Findlay will work closely with department leadership to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.
