The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding an armed and intoxicated male experiencing a mental health crisis at a residence on Township Road 180 Tuesday afternoon.
In addition to experiencing a mental health crisis, the individual was a known felon with multiple active arrest warrants who was illegally armed with several firearms, creating a high-risk situation for both neighbors and responding deputies.
Deputies arrived and established a perimeter around the property, and an occupant inside the residence was able to safely evacuate through a window without injury and was escorted to safety by responding officers.
Nearby roadways, including sections of Township Road 180 between U.S. Route 68 and County Road 115, were temporarily closed to ensure public safety.
After negotiations and tactical measures, including the deployment of a non-lethal chemical agent, the situation was brought to a resolution, and the subject, identified as Robert Ferriman, was taken into custody without further incident.
Further details regarding potential charges will be released as the investigation continues.
