The Hardin Soil and Water Conservation District is presenting a “Wonders of a Wetland” series on its Facebook page.

Wetlands can be natural or constructed, and both serve important purposes while providing many advantages to our environment.

A constructed wetland is designed and engineered to imitate as closely as possible a natural wetland. They can provide habitats for many different plants and animals by being a water

The wetland that is being constructed here in Hardin County will consist of 13 wetland pools of various depths, intermittent islands on the South end and a featured “horseshoe” shaped wetland pool on the Northern half.

There is a long snake-like mound that goes through most of the length of the wetland to provide a way for the research team to have access to their sites along with other mounds that help the natural flow of the water.

Pictures and descriptions can be found on the Hardin SWCD Facebook page.
