Kenton City Council met Monday evening for the 15th regular session of the year.
The meeting began by talking about the passing of Council at Large member Anda Tudor.
Members will begin the process of appointing a person to serve the remainder of her term, which is through the end of the year.
They noted they may reach out to some who are write-in candidates in November and noted that the deadline to file as a write-in candidate is August 25, and Council President Joel Althauser said we need more people like her to get involved with city council, “Anda did that late in life. Anda was just in her second term. It’s something that, I remember the day she walked across the yard and said, ‘hey I think I’m going to run for council.’ She had a desire. She had an immense knowledge of local government, and it’s something she wanted to put in practice. We need more people to do that.”
Council members answered questions and held a lengthy discussion about the proposed charter, set to appear on the November ballot. Voters will have the opportunity to decide on the formation of a commission and the selection of its members this November.
Also at the meeting, Mayor Lynn Webb said the northwest and southwest corners of the Hardin County Courthouse had to be surveyed and some of the bump outs taken out, which has kind of held things up for the downtown construction project, “Because you have to have ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) ramps in, and we’re kind of squeezed on space there, so again we’re trying to get it to look as good, but be as most effective and the most important thing, we have to be compliant, because if ADA is not set right, they will make it be set right.’
