Kenton City Council conducted its 18th regular session of the year Monday evening.

A public hearing to discuss the Downtown Revitalization District proposal opened the meeting, but no members of the public attended, and an ordinance to create the over 47-acre district would include most of the Downtown Historic District, was read for the first time.

Also at the meeting, Kenton Police Chief Dennis Musser informed council that his department has added a new officer, “ He is on his first month of FTO (Field Training Officer), so he is on day shift at the moment. When he moves to second shift, we will get him up here for introductions. He’s not a Hardin County boy but,  he’s only about 15 minutes away so pretty close. We have also sponsored if you will another gentleman, which is a Hardin County boy, He’s attending the Academy at the moment. He should be graduating in January and if everything works out, we should be a full strength. Hopefully we stay that way.”

Kenton Mayor Lynn Webb also introduced new City Auditor Brad Lauter, who then addressed members, “Thank you very much. I just wanted to let everybody know that I am filling the term. I was appointed to finish the term. Looking forward to working with you, and thanks for the introduction.”

Also at the meeting, Mayor Webb reminded residents that Trick or Treat will be on October 25 from 3 until 5pm. The annual parade will precede that.

An 11-year-old Kenton girl expressed her disapproval  of the daylight parade time, “I personally think that it would be better at night, or at least when it’s darker out, because it’s the Halloween Parade. It should be like spooky, and it’s not very spooky in the daylight, and we do the Christmas Parade at night, and it’s much bigger and no one gets hurt.”

She said the same goes for trick or treat, which she feels would be better when its darker outside.

The next regular session for Kenton City Council will be October 13.
