The Kenton Lions Club held its regular meeting on Wednesday June 18th, at the Kenton Elks.  The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by Lion President Brad Bailey with 19 members, one potential member and 4 guests present.

Guest Speaker John Dulin was introduced by his father, Lion Dave Dulin.  John, a 2011 Kenton High School Graduate and 2015 Graduate of Case Western University is the CEO and Co-Founder of Modern Intelligence.  His presentation included a history of the U.S. Military and how the equipment used was based on 1980’s technology.

John mentioned that the costs of maintaining dated equipment such as tanks and aircraft, although necessary, has become very costly to the military.  After 9/11, the military ramped up its ammo, weapons, and means of travel.  As newer technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) was being developed, the U.S. Military realized it needed to adapt.

With the Russian/Ukraine war, the use of Drones has proven successful and therefore the U.S. Military has decided to increase the use and development of Drones.  John’s company, Modern Intelligence, has developed software to improve the use of drones, with how drones can see, decide and act on situations.

This software can manage multiple feeds from drones on one computer screen.  Several questions were asked from members, like how weather can affect the use of drones and how protected is the software that is used in drones that do not return.

Lion Jason made a motion to accept the Treasurers and the Secretary’s report.  After a 2nd by Lion Michael Hunt, members voted.  Motion passed.

Communications: Lion Gary Whitmer read a thank you from Lucy Whitmer for the Lions Scholarship she received.  Lion President Brad shared an announcement on a Veterans Dinner on Saturday, June 28th from 5-7pm to be held at the Veterans Post 1994.   This event is free for Veterans and Open to the Public.  Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance although tickets will be available at the door on a first come, first served basis until sold out.

In Old Business,  Lion Jack Elsasser reported that he collected $46.03 and replaced 60 rolls of mints at all the locations except the Plaza Inn.

The Playground Committee of Lion Joe, Lion Judd Robinson, and Lion Dave Dulin reported that the installation plans have been enlarged and laminated and that the holes will need to be dug with installation of the equipment before concrete can be poured.  Lion Judd is confident that this can be done in one day and that a snow fence will be needed to keep people off the playground until the concrete sets.

Lion Dave Dulin reported that he has sprayed the weeds at the Welcome to Kenton SIgns and at Pioneer Park.

In New Business, Lion President Brad led discussion on the Bowling with Santa event. Lion Joe made a motion of an $800 budget to cover expenses for the event.  After a 2nd By Lion Kirk Cameron, Members voted.  Motion Passed.

Lion President Brad led discussion on having another food truck fundraiser in August or September to coincide with a Kenton High School home football game.  Members suggested several types of food and Lion Dave Dulin will check with Sweet Carolines on chicken dinner prices.  Lion Terry Burbacher mentioned having a Pancake Breakfast in October at the Moose.  After discussion, no action was taken at this time.   A new member was introduced by Lion John Siemon, Rachel Wilson.  She recently moved to Kenton from out of state.  After members voted, Rachel was approved for membership to the Club.

The 50/50 was one by Lion Rick Collins and Donated back to the club.
