
The Kenton Lions Club held its regular meeting on Wednesday, April 1st, at the Kenton Elks. The meeting was called to order at 6:27 pm by Lion President Brad Bailey with 23 members and one guest present.
Guest Speaker: Garrett Ray, of the Junior Trophy Bassmasters, began by thanking the Lions Club for the past donations to the group. Garrett reminded the club that he took over the group in 2015 and has grown the program from 5 kids to about 30 kids last season. He told members that he hosts 5 tournaments each season from May through July at local ponds, with an end of season Grand Champion Tournament at the Quarry on boats with help from parents/adults.
From donations and money out of pocket he is able to provide various fishing gear and awards. Last season he was able to provide each participant with a set of pliers, tape measure and fingernail clippers for trimming fishing line. Garrett shared photos of last season’s participants and award winners and shared some ideas for awards and participant gifts for the upcoming season.
He reminded Lions members that information about the Junior Trophy Bassmasters and upcoming tournaments can be found on a public Facebook page he manages, “Jr. Trophy BassMasters” and has requested continued support for his group that serves young people of Hardin County. The lions will vote on how to support this group at the next meeting.
Communications: Lion Todd Oates shared that the Kenton Lions club received a $100 gift in memory of Joyce Biddinger. Lion Bill Keller informed members that our club received recognition from Bosch on the club’s 376 eye glasses donated. Lion Bill aslo presented Lion Cindy Keller with a pin for her 15 years of service:

Treasurer and Secretary Reports: Lion Joe Burbacher moved to accept the secretary report. After a 2nd by Lion Jason Van Buskirk, members voted. Motion Passed.
Committee Reports
Golf Outing: Lion Tracy Anderson reminded members that the event is on May16th and to start asking businesses for ($50) Hole Sponsors and has shared last year’s list. The cost to golf will be $300 per group of four.
Pioneer Park: Lion Joe Burbacher informed members that the merry-go-round is in place at the park and that limbs were picked up by Lion Alger, Lion Joe and Lion Brad. Lion Joe has not heard anything on the community Foundation Grant. He also led discussion on types of shelter house to perhaps put in place at the parks. More discussion to follow.
Light Pole Banners: Lion Jason Van Buskirk says the change-out of banners will take place the week of May 11th – May 15th.
Old Business:
Little League Summer Tournament Help: Lion Joe Landsburg asked Lions for their help with cleaning up the ball diamonds and soccer fields due to the recent storms. More details to follow. Lion Judd Robinson reported on the Memorial Day Parade and that the committee is open for accepting float entries. Kelly Bostleman asked Members to set up at the City of Kenton’s “Family Fun Festival” event at the shopping plaza on June 6th. Members discussed setting up a snow cone machine, popcorn, a bounce house or hiring a magician with balloon making. No action taken at this time.
The 50/50 was won by Lion Joe Burbacher and donated back to the club. The Meeting Adjourned at 7:54 pm Followed by the Lions Roar.
