Lee Fry and Tim Conkle, joined Dr. Leonard Smith, Rotarian, and Kenton Rotary to discuss the Scioto Junction Model Train Club.

Situated between Kenton Elks 157 and Kenton Wildcuts sits a non-descript building, owned by the Elks, that houses the model train club.  The club first formed in 2019 and need a place to set up shop.  Demo began in 2020 and construction began on the HO scale train layout within the building.

The club boasts a small but loyal following of members.  Mr. Fry and Mr. Conkle say that new members are always welcome.  Membership into the 501 C 3 club is reasonable.  They, and the rest of the members of the club, hope to get the younger generation interested.  They have had success with small groups learning how to make scale sized trees for the layout.

Conkle and Fry further commented on the 29’ x 15’, app/ remote controlled layout that features falling trees, steam, engine sounds, bridges, crossings and just about anything else you can think of associated with a train and where train tracks may go.

The members welcome group to view the trains.  Most Mondays members can be found working on the layout while on. Wednesdays are reserved for “running”.  Both nights they are open from 6:30pm – 9:00pm.
