At Recent Kenton Rotary meeting, past President Russ Blue, welcomed Abbey Carl the new Youth Services coordinator at the Mary Lou Johnson Hardin County District Library. Since June, Ms. Carl has been at the helm of the Children’s department. Her main areas of focus are ordering books, working in the collection of current books to be sure they are in good shape and what our community needs.
Another area of focus is programming. Abbey is in charge of programming for youth from birth to 17. This is a wide range of ideas and topics to cover. Storytime for our toddler group is a staple. Each Wednesday at 10:00 am parents, caregivers and their toddlers come to see “Miss Abbey”. With music, song, silly dances and of course, several stories, the toddlers learn and grow as well as interact with one another. The parents and caregivers have a chance to bond, too.
The library offers many free programs every month from the “Storytime” to “Teen Time” to “Better Together” events where caregivers and parents come together with their children to paint, create a craft, have snacks and develop friendships. Abbey hopes to add additional programs that are also more passive in nature. These are programs that are not at a set time but something that families’ could stop in and pick up or participate in on their schedule. Ms. Carl also has plans to develop the children area of the library further with more hands on items for the toddlers to enjoy.
For more information about upcoming programs and events, visit the library on Facebook at: facebook.com/MLJLibrary/, the website at mljlibrary.org, or stop in and pick up a calendar and meet Abbey.
