A LaRue man has been indicted for allegedly reproducing child sex abuse materials and destroying evidence.
According to a release from Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan, the Marion County Grand Jury handed down a supplemental indictment against 32-year-old Phillip William Vanscoy.
The supplemental indictment comes after the Marion County Grand Jury, in April, previously indicted Vanscoy on four counts of Illegal Use of Minor in Nudity-Oriented Material or Performance (Second-Degree Felonies) and one count of Tampering with Evidence (Third-Degree Felony).
Marion County Sheriff Matt Bayles’ team is leading the investigation, working from a cyber tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, a national network of 61 coordinated task forces representing more than 6,200 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. ICAC monitors the internet and even online communications for videos and images that portray children involved in sexual activity or being sexually abused.
“There is evidence that Vanscoy may have tried to get involved with local youth groups for inappropriate purposes,” Prosecuting Attorney Grogan said. “If anyone has any information about that, we urge them to call Detective Katie Barber at the Marion County Sheriff’s office at 740-382-8244.”
The supplemental indictment adds six additional counts of Illegal Use of Minor in Nudity-Oriented Material or Performance (Second-Degree Felonies).
Vanscoy, aged 32, is married and has three children. He is currently on bond awaiting trial.
Grogan assigned Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Mark R. Weaver, who has significant experience in prosecuting sex offenses, to prosecute the case.
All suspects charged are presumed innocent until and unless convicted in court.
